Welcome to the personal page of Deborah Ballard-Reisch, Ph.D.,

Kansas Health Foundation Distinguished Chair in Strategic Communication and

Professor at Wichita State University in the Elliott School of Communication

I am a researcher, educator and writer interested in community-based participatory research (hunger awareness, wind energy decision-making and public health preparedness), family and couple communication, gender issues, strategic health and risk communication and international women’s health.

I take an ecological approach to my research, involving my students in making sustainable differences within communities through grounded and applied research. In short, I practice and promote engaged scholarship.

My core beliefs include:

     • Understanding the context is critical to understanding communication
     • A strength-based approach is vital to problem solving
     • One size does not fit all in crisis communication

I have researched and taught in several states across the US as well as in Canada, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, Mongolia, Russia (where I was a Fulbright Scholar) and Zimbabwe.

To learn more about my research or about me personally, visit my blog, Deborah’s Deliberations, take a look at my vita, or email me with any questions you have.

Peace and Health,

Deborah Ballard-Reisch, Ph.D.
